Share your love of tennis

The Alan G. Schwartz Community Tennis Program is looking for high school and college students, community residents, tennis players and others who enjoy sharing their love of tennis with others.

There’s no better way to express your passion for tennis than to help make sure it is accessible and available to all. Over the past 20 years, there has not been significant growth in the number and capacity of community tennis providers but there has been a huge boom in the number of individuals wanting to learn to play and improve their game. The need for more coaches couldn’t be more clear.

Once training is completed, you will have the following options to put your skills and passion to work in a variety of ways:

Day Camp Instruction

  • Station-based activities focused on introducing basic hand-eye coordination and racquet handling skills to youth ages 6 to 12.
  • Instruction occurs as part of the Chicago Park District’s six-week day camp.

  • Program staff attend each camp every week for as much time as necessary for all campers to receive at least one hour of instruction each week.

Youth Tennis 101 Classes

  • Traditional red ball instruction in a class format.

  • USTA’s Net Generation curriculum allows players to gain an understanding of basic skills in a supportive, play-based format.

  • Classes are scheduled in six-week courses with classes held one day each week for one hour.

Adult Cardio Tennis Classes

  • Adult fitness classes run on a tennis court focusing on fast-paced games, high energy activity and upbeat music.

  • Lower compression orange balls are used to equalize skill levels and extend the length of rallies so athletes maximize cardio benefits.

  • Classes held in six-week sessions with one-hour classes held every week.

Adult Tennis 101 Classes

  • Teach the fundamentals of tennis to adults 18 & over following a lesson curriculum that focuses on getting to play right away.

  • Classes are scheduled in six-week courses with classes held one day each week for one hour.
